My TV is able to squeeze the image of the pilot to it's correct AR and it looks fine. If your TV has a picture size button, there should be no problem with the BD. The widescreen cropping of the episodes I've watched so far is not very distracting at all. The titles are a bit close to the edges of the image, but never cut off. The strobing effect described on the DVDs sounds much more distracting. Unfortunately my TV can do nothing to reduce the long sideburns, leisure suits and general disco era look of the series. I bought this because of Leslie (OUTER LIMITS) Stevens' involvement and my wife loves David I found a cheap copy. November 11, 2018 Format: DVD Verified Purchase This was NBC's answer to ABC' The Six Million Dollar Man. The Invisible Man had a great pilot full of a lot of special effects and good writing. The series should have taken off but it did not. Only 12 episodes were made. I wasn't able to watch it when it aired due to school and am glad that it was released onto DVD. I watched all 4 disks without issue on a DVD player hooked up to an analog TV set so it pretty much looks like it would have been when it aired. It would be nice to see a reboot of the series and to find out of Dr. Daniel Weston ever develops a cure to his permanent invisibility. February 3, 2013 Format: DVD Verified Purchase DVD or Blu-Ray? Well, the DVD seems the better choice: According to other reviews, the Blu-Ray version is totally awful with badly compressed video and a distorted widescreen frame that ruins the original 1. 33:1 composition. But no one was complaining about the DVD version, so that is the one I bought, and I can confirm here that the DVD set is just fine. Video looks great, is in standard 1. 33:1 ratio, the audio is nice and clean. The image is so clear, you can see a lot of the wires used to float objects around. But the bluescreen effects work fairly well, always did. The 4 DVDs offer a decent compression ratio for a crisp viewing experience. This was a lot of fun in 1975 and it still works now. Although some of the episodes are merely lukewarm, there are some standouts; and the series lasted only a short 12 episodes (one unbroadcast episode is included here for completists). I remember as a kid being bummed at its sudden cancellation back in the day, because seriously, it's a fun fantasy series, and David McCallum (as scientist Daniel Westin) makes a great invisible good guy. Melinda Fee is perkiness personified as Westin's charming and somewhat curvaceous wife. If you liked the old Universal feature "Invisible Agent" with Jon Hall, that is basically the kind of thing this is, an invisible man as James Bond-type spy with the ability to sneak into basically anywhere, rescue hostages, and stop the villains. He has a special rubber mask and gloves that allow him to pass as a normal person when he wants to, and which he then peels off when he wants to disappear. This gimmick is used in some clever ways, and there are a couple of priceless moments in which Westin peels off the mask and displays his invisibility to certain characters after swearing them to secrecy about "what he is about to reveal". You will see a lot of bellbottoms, evening suits, and moppy hairstyles, since this is the disco 70's, but as long as you know what you're getting into, you'll be okay. Enjoy! October 16, 2019 Format: DVD Verified Purchase I attempted to order the 1075 TV series The Invisible Man starting David McCallum and Melinda Fee, but instead it turns out that I received the H. G. Wells original movie Invisible Man. While I will keep the movie, it would be appreciated if the product link was more accurate in it's listing when a buyer is attempting to order something they want, and receiving something they didn't want. March 5, 2014 Format: DVD Verified Purchase Amazon (as usual) was quite understanding and supportive. The only silver lining to this situation is that it proved once again how wonderful and truly professional and courteous they are in resolving problems to the best of their ability! That said, for someone who enjoyed the series when it was originally telecast, over forty years ago, this was a heart breaking experience. The four-disk set includes all thirteen episodes of the series with David McCallum. Sadly, the first episode (the series pilot) glitched about 48 minutes in (just on the scene where Daniel West -- the Invisible Man- is having his first treatment of a special dermaflex type skin that allows him to appear visible). The missing seven minutes were preceded by what sounds like the "motion artifacts" referred to by other reviewers of this set. Needless to say, having this problem appear in the pilot was extremely frustrating. The last episode on the fourth disk had a similar problem. When I reported it, Amazon quickly sent me a second set. The problem with the pilot episode was repeated on the second set I received as well, though the thirteenth episode on this second set did work fine. Amazon was quite reasonable in it's financial accommodation -- so again, Kudos to the company! Alas, I would love to see that pilot episode complete and uninterrupted! Perhaps eventually it will be re-released more reliably in DVD/Blue-ray combo format --- or better yet -- as stream-able digital content on Amazon Video. Either way, hopefully this is not the last we've seen of David McCallum's "The Invisible Man":-) March 29, 2014 Format: DVD Verified Purchase It's a clever way of how Daniel Westin becomes invisible in this version of the Invisible Man. At the time it was made, the special effects used was good; but in today's standards, it is quite laughable. The plausibility of a mask being lifelike and having eyes that look real is ridiculous. I enjoyed it anyway. It's not the horror story like the old movies, but more lighthearted and compassionate. I bought it because I am a David McCallum fan, and enjoy his work. It's not a great series, but it's enjoyable. I'm not surprised it only lasted one season when it was just a little too ridiculous. It's worth having in your collection just for the fun of it though.
